How Combine Training Gives You the Edge
Be At Your Best – Competing, Training, Playing and Performing - When Your Best Is Needed.
Combine360 is a systematic approach for trainers, sport performance athletes and competitors (“When Training is Your Sport”) to design programs via Open Architecture that have clear objectives in constructing workouts and maximizing performance, health and fitness potential. The overall goal is to enhance one’s Athletic Engine through the Primary Elements of Performance Balance, Athletic Movement and Combine Strength. The progression in Combine Training methodology is to gradually layer these elements along with complex overload variables to continually challenge the athlete with appropriate progression. It is important that each drill has purpose – learning to construct a workout knowing why each element was chosen for that individual.
The progression pyramid of Combine Training has three levels:
Level I -TRAIN TO IMPROVE: The beginning phase of Combine Training, initially focused on developing the foundation of the athlete’s Athletic Engine. The base of the pyramid becomes the starting point for all athletes as it establishes the foundation for all future levels of performance. This is a crucial developmental phase, ensuring the athlete can focus on developing one Primary Element of Combine Training at a time before the intensity and complexity of the training increases. In this phase, the athlete will develop the necessary total body balance, strength and movement patterns to prepare them for the next levels.
Level II -TRAIN TO GAIN: The next level of Combine Training focuses on improving body function so that the athlete is better prepared to engage in harder and more complex exercises. Skills, drills and exercises are selected to challenge 2 of the Primary Elements in this level. Combining the elements will upgrade and unify the body, demonstrating that it can orchestrate action cohesively.
Level III - TO PERFORM: The next level of Combine Training (note: there is always a “Next Level” to attain within this phase of development, and continue to improve your performance – this is where the system truly becomes exciting!) takes an improved Primary Element and challenges the athlete in a way that will translate to game action. Skills, drills and exercises are selected that challenge all 3 Primary Elements of Combine Training. Integrating all 3 elements together adds challenge and complexity commensurate with the athlete’s improved primary element and a unified body into the competitive environment.
Combine Training encourages the layering of overload variables to increase complexity, discovering a variety of ways to challenge and improve the Primary Elements (alone or trained together in the upper levels) in a way that activates the entire body. Understanding the 3 level process creates the opportunity for an Open Architecture system that develops safe and effective training programs, while achieving better expressions of an athletic body in motion.
